Many teams gather in a room, ask for ideas and hope creativity will emerge naturally. Sometimes it does. More often, however, conversations become dominated by a few voices, ideas are judged too early and creative potential remains untapped.
Effective brainstorming is not random.
It is a structured process designed to generate possibilities, encourage collaboration and expand thinking before evaluation begins.
Within the Explore stage of the 5E Design Thinking Framework, brainstorming helps individuals and teams move beyond obvious solutions, challenge assumptions and discover opportunities that may otherwise remain hidden.
The purpose of brainstorming is not to find the perfect answer immediately.
The purpose is to create enough possibilities that better answers can emerge.
