I am an educator, designer and researcher with a longstanding interest in how people learn, solve problems and create meaningful change.
Much of my work sits at the intersection of design thinking, innovation, entrepreneurship and education. Across these areas, I am particularly interested in helping learners, educators and organisations navigate complexity, make sense of uncertainty and develop the confidence to move ideas into action.
Over time, this interest has led me to create frameworks, visual resources, learning experiences and digital environments that aim to make complex concepts more accessible and more practical to apply.
A curiosity about how people learn
Learning is more than the transfer of information.
Throughout my career, I have been fascinated by learning. Not simply the transfer of information, but the processes through which people develop understanding, challenge assumptions, collaborate with others and apply knowledge to real-world situations.
This curiosity has shaped much of my teaching, research and design work. I have become increasingly interested in how learning environments can support creativity, problem solving, reflection and innovation without losing sight of the human experiences at their centre.
Many of the resources and frameworks on this website emerged from that ongoing exploration.
Design thinking as a way of learning
Curiosity, empathy, experimentation and collaboration.
My interest in design thinking began through a desire to better understand how people approach complex and often ambiguous challenges.
What attracted me to design thinking was not simply its focus on generating ideas, but its emphasis on curiosity, empathy, experimentation, collaboration and learning. Over time, I came to see design thinking as more than an innovation methodology.
It became a way of helping people make sense of complexity, explore possibilities and create meaningful responses to the challenges they encounter. This perspective continues to influence both my teaching and my work.
Developing the 5E Design Thinking Framework
A framework grown through teaching, reflection and use.
The 5E Design Thinking Framework evolved through years of teaching, facilitation, experimentation and reflection.
While working with students, professionals and organisational teams, I observed that many people could understand individual tools and activities but found it more difficult to understand how ideas, evidence, insights and decisions moved across the broader innovation process.
The framework was developed as an attempt to make those relationships more visible. Its focus extends beyond stages and activities to include information flows, feedback loops, productive tensions, continuous learning and responsible innovation.
Like the projects it supports, the framework itself continues to evolve through use, reflection and ongoing dialogue with learners and practitioners.

Where learning and innovation come together.
Many of the ideas explored on this website eventually led to the development of OpenStudios.
OpenStudios reflects a belief that meaningful learning often occurs when people actively engage with ideas through inquiry, experimentation, collaboration and project work. Rather than treating knowledge as something to consume, I am interested in creating environments in which people can build understanding through practice.
The platform continues to evolve as a space where learning and innovation come together.

The frameworks, archives, visual resources and learning environments gathered here are part of an ongoing journey rather than a finished body of work.
If there is a common thread connecting them, it is a belief that people are capable of making sense of complexity when they are given the right tools, opportunities and support. My hope is that the resources shared here help others do exactly that.
