Adoption Strategies

Approaches used to help people understand, accept and successfully use a new product, service, system or way of working.

01

Adoption depends on people, not just solutions

Even the most innovative product or well-designed process will fail to create value if people choose not to use it. Adoption strategies recognise that implementation success depends as much on human behaviour as it does on technical performance.

People often resist change when they do not understand its purpose, perceive risks or lack confidence in their ability to adapt. Adoption strategies help address these concerns by focusing on communication, engagement and support.

Successful implementation therefore requires attention not only to what is being introduced but also to how people experience and respond to it.

02

Communicate value and relevance

People are more likely to adopt something new when they understand how it benefits them. Effective adoption strategies focus on communicating value in clear and meaningful ways.

This involves explaining why change is occurring, what benefits it creates and how it aligns with stakeholder needs. Communication should be ongoing rather than a one-off announcement and should address concerns as they emerge.

When people understand both the purpose and the value of a change, resistance often decreases and engagement increases.

03

Support behaviour change

Adoption is rarely achieved through communication alone. People often need time, training, resources and opportunities to build confidence in new ways of working.

Support mechanisms such as coaching, peer learning, help resources and leadership engagement can assist people as they adapt. Successful adoption occurs when change becomes part of normal behaviour and daily practice.

This requires ongoing attention and reinforcement beyond the initial implementation period.

Put the method to work

Put Adoption Strategies into practice

01

Understand stakeholder needs

Identify motivations, concerns and barriers that may influence adoption.

02

Communicate value clearly

Explain the purpose, benefits and expected outcomes of the change.

03

Provide support and resources

Offer training, guidance and opportunities for learning.

04

Monitor and strengthen adoption

Gather feedback, address challenges and reinforce desired behaviours.

Why it matters

What Adoption Strategies make possible

Improves implementation success

Solutions create more value when people actively use and support them.

Reduces resistance to change

Understanding and engagement help address concerns before they become barriers.

Builds stakeholder confidence

Training and support increase comfort and capability during transition.

Creates sustainable outcomes

Strong adoption increases the likelihood that change will be maintained over time.
